Beaches

San Quintin offers some of the best beaches in Baja California.

Playa Santa María and Playa Pabellón is a 10 mile stretch of beautiful beaches.

Other enjoyable beaches are San Ramón (north of town), El Playón (west of town), and Playa El Socorro and Playa Tranquila to the south.

In the inner bay region there are plenty of beaches where popular seaside recreational activities such as swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing can be practiced.

Bird Watching

A bird-watching escapade is bound to leave you thrilled. This village is well known for its bird sanctuary

There are huge seabird colonies. A big variety of feathered specimens populate the beautiful bays and marshes.

From November to March you can watch the black brant, a migratory goose.

These birds spend the winter in San Quintin and in the quiet waters of Scammon's lagoon and San Ignacio lagoon, in the Baja California west coast.

Bird-watching tours provide unique opportunities for visitors to come up close with the rich fauna inhabiting San Quintín's sinuous coast.

Recommended: the Mudflat Nursery, a winter bird sanctuary boasting a wide variety of birds. Be prepared for a 11-mile exciting trip around a sheltered, shallow-water bay.

Boating

There is no doubt that some of the best beaches in Baja California are located within the bays of this coastal town.

These bays are only a few feet deep providing a safe and secure anchorage for boats and catamarans the whole year.

Off the bays the waters get very deep making it a perfect area to boating.

    Clamming

San Quintin is known for its endless supply of the giant Pismo clams and mussels.

Pismo clams, that can grow up to six inches, are the largest and the most yummiest among the Baja clams.

Due to the rich nutrients brought by ocean currents, and to the fertile volcanic soil around and under the bays, clams and oysters multiply by the millions.

That is why digging for oysters in the shallow waters of the bays is one of the main attractions here.

Playa Santa Maria is one of the most productive locations.
