Mesquite is generally used for large and heavy furniture without much carving but great designs. It is a wood that has become very rare and in the future will be impossible to find. Mesquite is a very stable hardwood and was originally used in Mexico by fishermen to build their fishing boats. Unfortunately the trees themselves are gnarled and knotty making it difficult to produce straight boards. However, this wood is a treasure because of its color and grain. The colors vary in tone from lemon, honey, carmel to burgundy. ![]() Many other woods are used in Baja California such as alder, as it is easy to carve and has a beautiful grain. At Muebles La Mision we have Mexican furniture in habillo, parota, and pine. It is amazing to watch the transition from a simple board to a masterpiece! ![]() We who live in Ensenada are very lucky to have real mesquite furniture available to us and priced correctly.
